Editing Notes


  • All stories are in 3rd person
  • Tense: these types of stories are strictly past tense
  • Use first and last name (first time), last name (every time after that), if their are multiple people with the same last name, use their last name until the other person is introduced, then use their first names (Ted Reeves, Reeves, Reeves, Jerry Reeves, Ted or Jerry, Tom Reeves, Ted or Tom or Jerry)
  • Quote /Transition Style: Transition goes first before statement, for understanding and basis
  • Story Telling: Tell the story, not the story of the interview
  • Said: only said, nothing else on quote
  • Simple and concise: no run on sentences, no more than 4 commas, no prepositional phrases
  • Format: No testament an quote in same paragraph
  • Word use: small words write to 6th graders
  • Spell and Grammar check: use spell check, read out loud
  • Edit Mark
    • ww- wrong word
    • backwards S- switch (punctuation)
    • box Z- switch (words)
    • L- new paragraph
    • ----- Sp- Spelling mistake
    • check mark- remove
    • / through letter- lower case
    • [ ]- written on side that goes with sentence
    • | |- extra space, or needs space
